West Meets East
What should ministry look like in the 21st Century? How does one minister effectively to a culture that is becoming increasingly postmodern? Just a few critical questions concerning critical issues facing the church. This blog is an attempt to think intelligently through these issues and others facing ministry in the present and in the future.

Wow, Jake, that really was a great aarticle. It was very informative, and it helped to clarify some of the very stark differences between the Eastern and Western approaches to theology and practice. I often find the two sides at war within my own heart and mind. On one side I struggle with my Western urge to rationalize everything and have a perfectly packaged theology, all the while trying to live a life of participation in and with the Triune God. While I lack the intellect and ability to articulate just exactly how those two facets of my Christian life are at war, I guess it could be explained by some of the things the author is trying to convey, IE. the differences in focus and trajectory of our theology. I like to think that somewhere in between East and West is a truly primitive Christianity, unspoiled and unaffected.
I can empathize with what your describing. In fact, I sense a similar war within me. Also, according to most post modern experts, most 18 - 35 year olds are struggling with the same thing - they just don't realize it.
They don't realize that perhaps the unrest within them that this demographic is experiencing is essentially theological and perhaps it has its roots in a schism over 1000 years old.
Something, from my brief study of theology, is that it seems that perhaps true Wesleyan theologically is perhaps the closest thing to this middle ground theologically you were articluating. In fact, as I begin perparation for PhD work I am going to suggest that Classic Methodism or true Wesleyan theology and its many components is the best answer for postmodern culture.
Well, I will try to supply for you a direct connection between Wesley's eucharistic and advent theology and an eastern mystic with my thesis project next year. *smile*
